5 YEAR OLD DIES IN A PIT LATRINE

On Monday, a five year old girl fell into a pit latrine at her school, Luna Primary School in Bizana, in the Eastern Cape, and drowned. At first, nobody knew what had happened to the little girl, Lumka. Her family and residents gathered and began searching until her body was found on Tuesday, a day after she had died.
Monday had begun like any other day, with being driven to school along with her schoolmates in the scholar transport. But at the end of the school day, shortly after noon, as the children were making their way back to the vehicle, the five-year-old was not among them. The driver searched the school and couldn’t find her. He continued with his drop-offs, finally stopping at the young girl’s home to inform her parents that she was missing.
The family started a manhunt for their little girl and the whole village was looking until the morning. Some people slept at the school, hoping the child might come back during the night, but it didn’t happen.
The family is quite distraught about this, as anyone can imagine.
I am deeply saddened by this sad story, poor girl she died all alone. She didn't deserve what happened to her. Schools are suppose to be safe environment for children and now this, after this incident I'm quite sure some parents will be scared for their children's safety at schools. There's much that should be done by DOE to reduce such cases at schools and create safe place for kids especially the young ones.

She was so young and the family must surely be in pain... Its everybody's responsibility to make sure that kids r in a safe environment. We can't always blame the government
ReplyDeleteIt is so painful that a little soul dies at that age, i feel sorry for the family. The government should help the school to build modern toilets.
